Mahadev Aarti

The ritual of performing shiv aarti is an integral part of worship in Hinduism. Mahadev Aarti's words are a praise to Lord Shiva and each verse ends with a message calling on the Lord to get rid of the unhappiness and pain of life. Mahadev aarti song sung by devotees is a fun way to please him with good deeds and get blessings from him. The last verse means that regularly performing Mahadev Aarti with a kind heart can fulfill one's desires. This aarti is popularly performed during Mahashivratri, Shravan Maas, on Mondays and, Lord Shiva is said to love devotees to perform aarti. Meaning: Glory to you, Shiva! Glory to you, Mother! May Brahma, Vishnu, and thus the congregation of other deities, including the kind Lord Shiva, deliver me from my ordeal!

एकानन चतुरानन पंचानन राजे ।

हंसासन गरूड़ासन वृषवाहन साजे ॥

Hansanan Garudasan Frisvahan Sajay.

Om Jai Shiv Omkara

Meaning: Being totally true, aware and, blissful, you play the roles of the three deities: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Like Vishnu you have only one face, like Brahma four and Shiva five. They are happy to see everyone looking at them. As Brahma you prefer the back of a swan for your seat, as Vishnu you wish to be seated on the back of a Garuda (mythical large eagle consumption - like bird which they thought was Lord Vishnu's chariot) and as a Shiva, you make the sacred bull your means of transportation; Of these, they are ready.

दो भुज चार चतुर्भुज दसभुज अति सोहे ।

त्रिगुण रूप निरखते त्रिभुवन जन मोहे ॥

ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

Do Bhuj Char Chaturbhuj Das Bhuj Ati Sohe,

Trigun Roop Nirakhta Tribhuvan Jan Mohe.

Om Jai Shiv Omkara

Meaning: As Brahma you possess two arms of one body, as Lord Vishnu four and Lord Shiva ten, all appearing as a beautiful soul and unparalleled purity. The inhabitants of the three domains barely watched you more than they were charmed.

अक्षमाला वनमाला मुण्डमाला धारी ।

त्रिपुरारी कंसारी कर माला धारी ॥

ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

Akshimala Vanmala Mundmala Dhari,

Chadan Marghamd Sohae Bale Shashi Dhari.

Om Jai Shiv Omkara

सनकादिक गरुणादिक भूतादिक संगे ॥

ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

Sankadik Garunadik Bhootadik Sange.

Om Jai Shiv Omkara

Meaning: O great Lord Omkara, the ruling deity, the form of your body is clothed in white and yellow with robes of silk and tiger skin, while communing with the forces of orcs, gods like Brahma, and divine seers like Sanaka . Pray for me to deliver me from my affliction.

कर के मध्य कमंडलु चक्र त्रिशूलधारी ।

सुखकारी दुखहारी जगपालन कारी ॥

ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

Karke Mashya Kamandalu Chakra Trishooldhari,

Sukhkari Dukhhari Jag Palankari.

Om Jai Shiv Omkara

Meaning: Great Lord Omkaara, you hold an akamandalu (begging water urn) in one hand and a trident in the other; You bring joy to anyone or everyone or anything, destroy all adversity and preserve the entire world.

ब्रह्मा विष्णु सदाशिव जानत अविवेका ।

प्रणवाक्षर में शोभित ये तीनों एका ॥

ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

Brahma Vishnu Sadashiv Janat Aviveka,

Pranvaakshar me Shobhit Yah Tinon Eka.

Meaning: Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are identified by the ignorant as three different individual deities, but they are all so powerful that they cannot be distinguished in a mystic "Om" stanza. Pray to deliver me from my various afflictions.
