Importance of Karnavedha Muhurat 2024

In Sanatan Dharma, auspicious time to start or continue auspicious works is selected with the help of astrologers. Annaprashan, ear piercing and other operations are done six months after the birth of the child. There are 16 sanskars of importance in Hindu religion and among them ear piercing is the ninth important sanskar. Karna Chhedan means piercing the ears and in the ritual a silver or gold wire is worn through the child's ears. 

There is a tradition of piercing the right ear of a boy and the left ear of a girl. The ear piercing ceremony or ritual is performed to enhance the hearing power of the child and to avoid negativity in their life. It is said in the scriptures that a person whose ear piercing is not performed is not included in the last rites of his relatives.

The procedure of the Karnavedha Ceremony

  • For the Karnavedha ceremony, select a suitable temple or holy place. 
  • Bathe the child and dress up in clean and new clothes. 
  • Before the start of the Karnavedha ceremony, remember your god & goddesses and your favorite deities. You can take help from priests for it.
  • During the process, the parents of the child should sit facing the sun. 
  • In the ceremony, different mantras are chanted continuously in the ear of the child.

Accurate Age for Karnavedha 

Karnavedha Sanskar is performed on the twelfth or sixteenth day of birth. Additionally, it can be completed on the 6th, 7th, or 8th month from birth or in an odd year from the birth year. It is believed that this rites should be performed within three or five months of the birth of the child.
