Griha Pravesh or Housewarming ceremony is a valuable and precious moment in a person's life. This is because after a lot of hard work and efforts one is able to build one's own house. To make your dream of owning a precious house successful, it is important that house warming in the new house or the old house should be done at an auspicious time only. The reason for this is that entering your house in an auspicious ascendant and date brings happiness, peace and prosperity in your house. Griha Pravesh Muhurat is calculated on the basis of available dates, day, ascendant and nakshatra.

Griha Pravesh as per Vedic Texts

  • According to Vedic beliefs, the months of Magh, Phalgun, Vaishakh and Jyeshtha are considered very auspicious for house warming.
    ●  The Griha Pravesh ceremony is prohibited during the four months or Chaturmas, i.e. during the months of Ashadha, Shravan, Bhadrapada and Ashwin. The reason is that this period is the time of sleep and rest of all the gods and goddesses including Lord Vishnu. Apart from these months, the month of Pausha is also considered inauspicious for house entry.
    ●  Griha Pravesh can be done on all days except Tuesday. However, entering the new house on Sunday and Saturday is prohibited under certain circumstances.
  • Except Amavasya and Purnima, Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi and Trayodashi dates of Shukla Paksha are considered auspicious for the house warming ceremony.
    ●  Griha Pravesh should be done in a stable ascendant. The auspicious time for this occasion is calculated on the basis of the position of the Sun in your birth constellation. For example, if it is situated in the fifth and ninth house from your zodiac sign, then this period is inauspicious for Griha Pravesh, but if it is situated in the sixth and eighth house from your zodiac sign, then this period is highly auspicious for Griha Pravesh. .

Different Types of Griha Pravesh

It is generally believed that Griha Pravesh or Griha Pravesh ceremony is done to mark entry into a new house, which is wrong. According to Vastu Shastra, there are generally 3 types of house entrances:

  • Apoorva: When one enters a new house for living, it is called Apoorva Griha Pravesh.
    ●  Sapoorva: Due to some reasons, if a person lives in some other place and leaves his/her house empty. Then, after some time when they moves back to their house, it is called as Sapoorva Griha Pravesh.
    ●  Dwandhav: Due to a natural calamity or other reasons, if a person has to helplessly leave their home. Then, she/he has to perform Griha Pravesh Puja Vidhi to live in their old home again. This term is known as Dwandhav Griha Pravesh.

Importance of Vastu Shanti for Home

Vastu Shastra is an ancient form of Indian science in which the importance of directions has been explained. The word Vaastu means the place where God and man live together. The human body is made up of five elements and the Vaastu of the house is considered to be related to these elements. According to Vaastu, gods reside in every direction. Positive energy coming from every direction brings happiness, peace and prosperity in a person's life. Therefore, before entering the house, Vaastu puja and peace must be done.

Griha Pravesh after Complete Construction (Griha Nirman Karya)

Many times it has been seen that people enter their new house under construction. In Hindu religion and according to religious texts, this action is not considered correct. These Vedic texts mention certain rituals that should be followed before Griha Pravesh.

  • Avoid Griha Pravesh in an under construction house, until the doors are placed in it, especially the main door, along with the complete construction of the roof of the house.
    ●  After Griha Pravesh, try not to padlock your main door as it is considered inauspicious.

Note: All the above information related to Griha Pravesh is considered very important from the religious point of view. However, please consult an experienced astrologer for Vaastu peace, Vaastu remedies and other similar activities before Griha Pravesh.
