In Sanatan Dharma, Janeu Sanskar is one of the 16 prescribed Sanskars. It is considered the tenth sanskar in Hindu religion. In the ceremony, boys are made to wear a sacred thread called Janeu. It is worn by Brahmins, Kshatriyas and boys of other castes. The word Upanayana is made up of two words – 'Up' means near and 'Nayana' means sight. The literal meaning of Upanayana is to keep a person away from darkness and take him towards light. It is considered one of the popular and sacred rituals in the religion.
The article provides accurate information related to Upanayana Muhurta 2024. It is usually performed in Hinduism at the time of marriage for the groom. This ritual is known as Yajnopavit.
It is believed that through the sacred thread ceremony, the child moves from childhood to youth. For the boy's progress in life, qualified pundits tie a sacred thread (also known as Janeu) above the boy's left shoulder and below his right arm. It is made from three threads which represent Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Also these threads represent God Rin, Father Rin and Sage Rin. Also, people believe that the threads represent Sattva, Raha and Tama. Apart from this, it is also considered a symbol of the three stages of Gayatri Mantra.
There is a prevalent belief in Hinduism that the three threads represent three ideals. The first thread of the sacred thread symbolizes commitment to the spiritual path, the second represents the parents and their method of parenting, and the third represents spiritual teachers. One should never forget the ideals that the three threads represent. In Hindu religion, Janeu is not an ordinary thread but a sacred and spiritual thread.
According to Upanayan Muhurta 2024 and in Hindu religion, Janeu is considered a part of its identity. Wearing the sacred thread and following the right rules is an important duty of Hindu boys. Only after wearing the sacred thread does the child get the right to perform yagya and self-study.
Discussing scientific importance, it is believed that,
9 Strings of Janeu: Each Janeu chord has 3 strings and in such a scenario, the total number of stars becomes 9.
Five Knots of Janeu: There is the presence of five knots in the Janeu. The 5 knots prepared in the Janeu represent Brahma, Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha.
Janeu’s Length: The total length of Janeu is 96 fingers. In such a situation, the wearer of the sacred thread is urged to learn 64 Art Forms and 32 Vidhyas. These Vidhyas are developed with a mix of Vedas, four Upavedas, six Angas, six Darshanas, three Sutragranths, and nine Aranyakas.
While wearing the sacred thread the child only holds the stick. He wears only one cloth and it should be ready without stitching. Usually, dhoti and a yellow colored scarf is worn around the neck during the ceremony. It is mandatory to wear these pieces during ceremonies. Children and family members are also participating in the Yagya on the spot.
Yagyopaveet Sanskar starts with the Gayatri Mantra.
There are three stages in Gayatri.
‘Tatsaviturvarenyam’ first phase,
‘Bhargodevasya Dhimahi’ second phase,
‘Dhiyo yonah: prachodayat’ – third phase.
